Cyril’s Edge – 16 December 2021

It’s time for our weekly look at the soccer action coming up – let me know what you think of my predictions!

Salernitana vs Inter Milan
The Garnets return to the topflight of Italian football was an incredible achievement. Unfortunately, their return to Serie B seems inevitable. Franck Ribery seems like the only candidate that can pull the strings for an upset win over the league leaders. Inter will avoid any complacency as their rivals are hot on their heels. This should be a comfortable win for the Nerazzurri. INTER WIN & OVER 2.5 GOALS

Aston Villa vs Burnley
The Villains picked up a solid midweek win over a spirited Norwich. Steven Gerrard will be hoping his lads can build on that with another impressive showing against the Clarets. Academy product Jacob Ramsey was instrumental at Carrow Road. Sean Dyche will be aware that time is going by, and he’ll be expecting a fight from his boys. I see this being a close game, but the Villains should get the win. Aston Villa to WIN UNDER 3.5 GOALS

Southampton vs Brentford
The Bees earned some extra rest time after their midweek clash with Man United was postponed. Thomas Franck wasn’t too pleased with the outcome, but he would’ve used the time for extra preparation for an already struggling Southampton. Ralph Hassenhutl is aware of the Saints log position. This is a must-win for the home team. Che Adams needs to keep firing and he will be instrumental. The Saints to WIN & BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE

Leeds vs Arsenal
The Whites were so impressive at Stamford Bridge a fortnight ago. Their midweek trip to the Etihad turned out to be an absolute nightmare. Now is the right time for Marcela Bielsa to have his football style live up to its name. The Gunners will smell blood and look to inflict more damage to the Whites, but we should see them bounce back. This will be an open and expansive contest. I’d say BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE

Everton vs Leicester
The recent late win against the Gunners failed to give Benitez’s men the momentum needed as they fell at Selhurst Park to Palace. The Toffees are still dealing with many injury cases. This will be another gritty game that they will need to dig deep for the win. The Foxes Zambian star Patson Daka is on fire, and we can expect another solid performance from him. It would be a good option to go with DAKA & VARDY AS POSSIBLE GOAL SCORERS

Newcastle vs Man City
Atletico will carry momentum from their midweek win over Porto. Real are looking great at this point and are favourite to secure the three points and bragging rights. Karim Benzema is on fire. It will always be difficult to break down Diego Simeone’s team, who are always defensively sound. This will be an awesome watch for the neutrals, but the WIN and bragging rights will go to Los Blancos
