Cyril’s Edge – 06 January 2022

It’s time for the first Cyril’s Edge column of 2022, as I take a look at what the upcoming soccer games have in store – let me know what you think of my predictions!

Bayern Munich vs Monchengladbach
The Bavarians are on course for yet another Bundesliga title. Gladbach will hope for some New Year Munich hangover to give them some chance of getting a point out of this game. Despite Covid concerns within the Munich camp. They should go on to equal their record of scoring in 65 consecutive Bundesliga games. Bayern to WIN UNDER 2.5 GOALS

Bordeaux vs Marseille
Ligue 1 is back, and the hosts have a lot to do in the second half of their campaign. Bordeaux sits a point above the drop zone and possible covid issues will make their task a difficult one. Marseille is currently being hailed for their defensive masterclass. They aren’t big on the scoring front but have a good away record this season. This might be the ideal time for the visitors to break the 44-year-old duck at Bordeaux. Marseille to WIN UNDER 2.5 GOALS

Real Madrid vs Valencia
Los Blancos and Los Murciélagos lost their 2022 opening games. This will be the ideal time to get the New Year up and running, but it won’t be easy for both parties. Eight of Madrid’s eleven La Liga titles won under the 38-game format have seen them lead the pack at New Year. Karim Benzema is a prime candidate for getting the hosts back on the winning track. Failure to win this clash will see Sevilla close the gap. Valencia will look to Goncalo Guedes to spoil the day, but this looks like a WIN FOR REAL MADRID

Tottenham vs Crystal Palace
The fruition of Antonio Conte’s work began to show in Spurs clash against Liverpool. Spurs fans will be expecting their team to win on Boxing Day against The Eagles. Patrick Vieira has done well since his arrival. A win this weekend would take his side to within 3pts of Spurs. Plenty for both teams to play for in this one. The quality up front will be a tad bit too much for Palace. SPURS WIN OVER 2.5 GOALS.

Granada vs Barcelona
This is the best time for Granada to be confident of a win against the mighty Catalans. Barca is in a rather unfamiliar territory, especially after being ousted from the Champions League. If they fail to get their act together, they could miss out on a top-four spot. The hosts will prove to be a tough nut to crack. Despite their issues, Xavi will be expected to grind out a win. BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE

Roma vs Juventus
Roma will be determined to bounce back from their disappointing start to the season, but it is difficult to look past the Old Lady on this occasion. Dejan Kulusevski was excellent on his debut against Sampdoria. We fancy the 20-year-old to play another leading role in a narrow success for the reigning champions. Jose Mourinho will attempt to have his defence as solid as can be. This will be a gritty battle with Juventus clinching a narrow win. CORRECT SCORE 1 – 2

Man United vs Aston Villa
The biggest FA Cup clash of this round is ideal for Monday Night Football. In the past, you could throw your house on United strolling to victory. This time around, it would be wise to consider other options in a punting capacity. Ralf Ragnick’s players are struggling to adapt to his brand of football. The Red Devils have struggled at home this season. Villa will be aware of this and look to exercise the ultimate cup knockout. New manager Steven Gerrard will give the travelling Villa fans something to enjoy at the end of the game. Aston Villa to WIN UNDER 3.5 GOALS
