Cyril’s Edge – 13 January 2022

After a week off for some FA Cup action, the EPL returns in force and it’s time for Cyril’s Edge to take a look at what the upcoming soccer games have in store – let me know what you think of my predictions!

Man City vs Chelsea
Supa Saturday kicks off with action at the Etihad as the top two square off. Chelsea cannot deal with a loss, as it could be a mental blow for them in the title race. City is expected to be without many players due to Covid and AFCON duties. Pep Guardiola’s return to the dugout is still uncertain. This could be the ideal opportunity for Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea to come away with 3 points. It’s going to be an amazing contest. A SCORING DRAW seems to be the best option

Newcastle vs Watford
The Magpies are in dire straits despite their recent takeover by the Saudi Public Investment Fund. The FA Cup loss to Cambridge didn’t go down well and they would look to bounce back immediately. Watford has been shocking since their stunning display against United. Their cup exit to Leicester means all they can do now is fight for survival. This game is an absolute six-pointer with both teams hoping to get some breathing space in the relegation zone. Callum Wilson will be a loss for the hosts, but Newcastle should do enough to snatch a win. NEWCASTLE TO WIN UNDER 3.5 GOALS

Aston Villa vs Man United
Round two, FIGHT! United’s shaky performances continued, but they managed to defeat Villa in their cup tie through McTominay’s strike. Stevie G and the Villains will be relishing the prospect of revenge this weekend. The addition of Coutinho is massive and the Brazilian should feature against the Red Devils. CR7 should return to Ralf Rangnick’s team but United’s struggles will go on as they try to adapt to the new style of play. Villa is of great value for their current performances and with the new addition, they could pick up a big win. Villa to WIN OVER 2.5 GOALS

Liverpool vs Brentford
Hmmm, this will be tricky for Jurgen Klopp. Alisson and Trent Alexander-Arnold recently tested positive for the virus but should recover in time. Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Naby Keita are all on international duty at AFCON. Klopp will still have quality players at his disposal but it’s the ideal time for the Bees to arrive at Anfield. Thomas Frank will be hungry for a result here after their midweek humbling at Southampton. This will be an exciting contest with Liverpool doing about enough to seal the win. BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE

Tottenham vs Arsenal
Spurs will look to jump into the top four this weekend at the cost of North London rivals Arsenal. With a few games in hand as well, the derby presents a great opportunity for Spurs to build momentum for the games ahead. Harry Kane’s rise in form has also helped, while Lucas Moura looks like a player transformed since Antonio Conte’s arrival. The Gunners suffered a shock cup exit at the hands of Nottingham Forest. It’s been a topsy-turvy period for Mikel Arteta but they could leave White Lane with the bragging rights. ARSENAL TO WIN UNDER 3.5 GOALS

Atalanta vs Inter Milan
Inter haven’t lost to Atalanta when having played them away from home in the previous 2 matches in the league. 3 or more goals per match were recorded in 5 of the last 6 fixtures where Atalanta has taken part. The hosts need the points to keep their title hopes alive. This will be a tough challenge for both clubs. It will be difficult for Inter to shut out Atalanta, but they should go on to secure a narrow win. INTER MILAN to WIN
